August 1978 Recording Magazine

Post by Fonotec »

When y'all get "a round tuit," y'all should really download this issue of Recording Magazine from August of 1978. It has a cutting-related article called, Disc Mastering, and other texts on lacquers, lathes, and related parts of vinyl making, and includes interviews with Robert Ludwig (then, Masterdisk), Bernie Grundman (then, A&M), John Golden (then, Kendun), Chris Blair (Abbey Road), and Toshio Kikuta (King Records, Tokyo).

{This issue includes an article on the Buchmann-Meyer technique for viewing the relative frequency response of a cutting system by how light reflects off the grooves of the lacquer or pressing. The naked eye can see ~ 1/2 dB variation. For example, the difference between the Christmas tree trunk width of 46 mm and 40 mm is about 1 dB. 45-degree angle is all that is needed for the light pattern to show up. }
