One of the founding members of the Audio Engineering Society and inventor of the Pickering pickup, which revolutionized the reproduction of gramophone records, has died, at the age of 99. The image, below, was borrowed from the New York Times obituary, from November 30, 2015.

He was apparently a Renaissance man, who was not only gifted in music, but also in mechanical engineering. He developed a French horn model for C. G. Conn, and a stabilization system for Boeing aircraft, and also an ultrasound diagnostic tool for ophthalmologists. Of course, his inspired development of a playback jewel, of sapphire or diamond, on a lightweight tone arm enabled vinyl records to achieve remarkable fidelity and clarity.
