At the age of 91, Rudolf Van Gelder has passed, 25, August, 2016, at his home studio, in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. He was an all-around audio engineer, recording the original takes, mixing the master tape, and cutting the master disk. The artists for whom he engineered included Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Herbie Hancock, and Sonny Rollins, to name a few. The labels that hired him included, Prestige, Blue Note, Impulse, and CTI Records. This nice photograph, below, appears in The New Yorker.
