Lacquer Humidor

Post by Fonotec »

I took the huge IsoBox out of the cutting room after I replaced the chassis fans in the Ortofon amps with the high blowing,
16-dBSPL Thermaltake DC fans that have a hydro-rotor. Having attenuated the chassis noise to 'whisper quiet', I no longer needed the IsoBox, which has racks, but also inside has its own fans. Those fans are still pretty audible when the door is closed, so the IsoBox was always more of an Eye-Sore box.

I read in Mr. Boden's compendium, Basic Disc Mastering, about how Capitol's Audiodiscs were supposed to be stored at 50 % relative humidity until use, so I decided not to sell the IsoBox but turn it into a lacquer humidor. I got some RH60 silica bead sticks from Heartfelt cigar supplies and a battery-operated hygrometer and can run the IsoBox humidor on no wall power. It's a passive, low variance evap.-and-condensation loop.
