DSS chip tube nozzle holder

This photo was taken in 1981 at Sunshine Sounds Enterprises, where Gary Ham was cutting with an Ortofon system on their LS-76.

This moving chip tube nozzle holder appears to connect to the bottom of the quick-disconnect block of the yoke. That keeps the nozzle always aimed at the stylus.

Normally, the lathe chip tube nozzle is vertically stationary, although the entire chip tube moves laterally with the carriage.. This image from a YouTube video shows that the nozzle is always right above the lacquer surface, and the cutting head lowers and rises without moving the nozzle. The power for the stylus heater is disconnected via a microswitch until the cutting head drops, and is again disconnected as soon as it rises off of the disk.
